TE AROHA TROTS FRED SMITH CONTINUES TUiRNING OUT WINNERS TE MAHANGA'S DOUBLE

Herriesville, Saturday. The Te Aroha Trotting Club h'eld. its annual meeting to-day on the Herriesville course and had a good attendance and excellent racing. Notable features were the fact tha.t Pred Smith continued his winning way, collecting the double with Pegaway and Kewpie's Guy. Froxn Wilfred John'stone's stable Te Mahanga won two events. The tote handled £10,840 oompared with £8922! last year an inerease of £19171. Results. — WAITOA HANDICAP, 11 miles. Limit 3.6 1/3— TE MAHANGA, Mr. W. Times: 2.49 3-5, 2.54 1-5, 2.52 15, 2.55 2-5. One to Wilfred Johnstone Pacing smoothly, Te Mahanga won the Wiaitoa Handicap comfortably from Jester with tiring Lislea in third berth. Aircraft and Red Hope broke up at th'e start and passing the stand Worthy Chief and Homebrew were in command from Maud Chenault. Homebrew was still in chiarge at the baek but Jester and Te Mahanga made a forward move and led Worthy Chief, Lislea, Homebrew ia.nd Maud Chenault. Te Mahanga went to the front and won by 3! len. Indolent Returns to Form Not having raced since 'earlier in the seiason Indolent went out at a good price for the Elstow Handicap and despite a few skips established a commanding lead to win by severa: lengths- from Kuini who did not get away too well. Peter Abdullah dwelt on the nnark and Indolent struck the front from Stardown, 'Golden Huia, Mountain Sun, Golden Eagle, Wiriwhata and Summertime. Indolent got a ten length break on Golden Huia, Golden Eagle, Mountain Spn, Stardown, Wiriwhata and Summertime with Kuini heading the rest. In the * run of the last half mile Indolent skipped twice and lost a bit of ground while turning for home Indolent led Golden Eagle, Golden Huia, Kuini, Summertime ia.nd Autumn Lu. Kuini came with a rattle but could not reach Indolent, whilst Golden Huia who galioped for the last furlong was third ahead .of Golden Eagle, Autumn Lu, Wiriwhata and Mattie Herbilwyn. An inquiry after the race into Golden Huia's galloping was hel'd and she was placed fourth, Golden Eagle being placed third. Pukemiro Consistent After Willie Derby and Rangihas; had done the bulk of the leading in the Manawaru Handicap, Pukemiro came through to win from Realty who went a phenomenally better race than at Thames; remarkably 'so in fact. Silver Bingen led Willie Derby, Rangihau and Pukemiro, Lady Coronado. Poi, Dad's Hope and Our Peter. Willie Derby was in charge at the end of a mile from Rangihau, Silver Bingen, Pukemiro, Poi, Our Peter (eommencing a run) Realty and Dad's Hope. 'Rangihau led at the home turn from Our Peter who came up very fast, Realty, Pukemiro, Willie De.'by an'd Poi. Realty went wide and Pukemiro shot through to win by a r.eck from Realty, with Rangihau under the flia.il, to hold off Silver Bingen, Willie Derby was fifth followed by Our Peter, who broke at the - distance and spoilt su good show, Free Logan and Dad's Hope. Pegaway Like a Race Horse After waiting on the leaders most of the journey Pegaway won his first two-miler by a couple of lengths from First Flight with Prince Pedro in third possie. Great Delight bobbled at the start and Brent Zolock led out from Pegaway, Prince Pedro, Kewpie's Triumph, Great Delight and First Flight. When a round had gone Brent Zolock was still in charge from First Flight, Pegaway and Prince Pedro with Kewpie's Triumph ahead of. Pageant and Auto Machine. First Flight turned for home ahead of Prince Pedro and Pegaway with Brent Zolock heading Pageant and Kewpie's Triumph. Pegaway came through to beat First Flight with Prince Pedro third. Bessie Parrish on the Bit When the Waihou Handicap was up for decision the further Bessie Parrish went the further she was in front. Billy Carbine led out from Marble Star with Zanzibar and Bessie Parrish in attendance. Bessie Parrish went to the front with Zanzibar and Billy Carbine strung out at intervals. There was no loitering on the jourT ney and both Marble Star and the backmarker, Explosion, were put out of court by skipping. Homeward Pays Expenses Making up her handicap very quickiy Homeward was up with Mythorpe, the early leader in the Hot Springs Handicap and when the business end was reached she went away and won easily by four lengths from Jackie Thorpe with Rey de Quest paying a good price for third. Mythorpe went out showing the way to Homeward, Wee Machine, Rey de Quest, Mazda (who was sideways when the fiag fell) Elea.wah and Francis Lincoln. Wee Machine broke up at th'e stand and went all to pieces and Mythorpe led Homeward, Francis Lincoln, Rey de Quest, Mazda and Eleawah. Homeward took charge at the turn from Mythorpe, Jackie Thorpe Rey de> Quest Pukemiro, Eleawah and Francis Lincoln. Francis Lincoln went to a break when making a dab and Homeward won easily. Eleawah was stopped when Francis Lincoln broke up. After the placed horses came Francis Lincoln, Pukemiro, Mythorpe and Mazda. Homeward carried £114! and £95!, Jackie Thorpe £40 and £82, Rey de Quest £8 and £19!. FAREWELL HANDICAP, limiles. Limit 2.47. 1/1— KEWPIE'S GUY, Mr. R. Kewpie's Guy Completes Day Making her run at the right moment Kewpie's Guy completed the double for Smith from the unfortunate Brentlight with Great Parrish third. Brent Zolock did not go off right and Prince Pedro led out from Brentlight, Direct Morning, Kewpie's Triumph, and Great Parrieh and when they had gone half the journey Great Parrish had assumed the lead from Prince Pedro, Kewpie's Triumph, Direct Morning, Brent Zolock, Pageant and Kewpie's Guy bringing up the rear. The pace was on at th'e top where Great Parrish still had a momentary advantage of Prince Pedro and Direct Morning with Kewpie's Triumph heading Kewpie's Guy who was putting in the licks. Kewpie's Guy got home with Piunce Pedro in fourth position followed by Pageant, Kewpie's Triumph, ;Dir!ect Morning and Brent Zolock. Kewpie's Guy carried £325! and £256!, Brentlight £101 and £133! and Great Parrish £124! and £156.
