FlVE-YEAR-OLD BOY SAVES BROTHER FROM DROWNING
— By Telegraph — Copyright) .
Dargaville, Wednesday. But for the fact that his five-year-old brother clutched at his hands and held them as he was sinking in the Northern W'airoa river yesterday afternoon, Colin Powell, aged seven years, the son of Mr. W. L. Powell, would undoubtedly have been drowned. Not only did the younger Powell hold his brother's hands, but he al§o grabbed a piece of rope on a barge, so that he himself would not be pulled into the river. Questioned by his father, the little chap said he knew his brother was drowning, as he saw his hat and books floating in the river. He took hold of his brother's hands as he threw them up, and could not let them go, so tightly did the elder boy clutch him. He pulled him upon the barge, and neighbours quickly gave assistance. The elder boy was later able to walk to his home.
