Cambridge, winning the toss, were enabled to row a shorter distance, which was a large factor. in the victoi*y. Oxford led by half a length for the first mile. Cambridge had the advantage at the bend by more than a length and forged ahead to win easily, though Oxford rowed the best raco for ten years. Cambridge's record is ten successive wins. It is estimated that the attendance was close on 1,000,000. The river banks were crowded for the whole of the four mile course.
