HAMILTON FATALITY
'PLANE NOSE-DIVES | Auckland, Sunday. j An aviation fatality occurred at J Hamilton to-day, the . victim being i Raymond Eric Land, aged 19 years. 1 ITe was a flying pupil and was pilot- : ing Captain Blackburn's "Blue Bird" biplane, when it crashed near. the Te i Rapa aerodrome this morning, the j plane being wrecked. Land, who was the only occupant, ' xvas extricated with a broken leg and cuts to the face. He was removed to t-he hospital, where he died this afternoon. Land had done a fair amount of solo flying. He had made two successful flights to-day, and was up for the third time. When banking the engine stalled at a height of 100 feet. The aeroplane nose-dived and fell into a narrow gully, at the bottom of which is a swamp. The'-right wing struck a tree which broke the f all of the aeroplane, while the swamp acted as a cushion. *The engine and the propeller of the machine were embedded in the mud. The weather was fine with practically no wind. Deceased was a son of Mr. E. G. Land, of Hamilton, and was employed by the Waikato Times.
