BEAUTY HINTS

BY NORMA SHEARER, (M-G-M Star.) I believe it was some old seer who said one should keep one's neighhours — and quietly go to a garden and enjoy the beauty of a flower — or one should gaze at a heautiful stone — or concentrate one's attention on a colourful picture — and that hy this means one's trouhle's would dissolve and the correct answer would come. The same results, I have found, can he obtained by gathering together harmonious articles for one's surrounundings. One doesn't need priceless pictures or rare pieces of art to get thi= effect. Simply find out what eolours are most pleasing for one's drapes and decorations and ehoose such things as are restful.

Also neatness and cleanlinelss react in givjng .a soothing effect. If one's household is always in a turnioil one cannot expect to get a xeaction of quietness- If one's wireless is tuned in a low pitch and one'is lights are shaded, the effect is far more pleasing than are blatant noise and bright lights. A comfortable chair can do more in putting one in a mood of poise and charm than a roomful of fancy decoxative chairs. Unconsciously one's surroundings create a mood of (serenity that is needed as a haven of rest from the turmoil of life.
