FAREWELL TO MRS. W. H. SPEER ! To say farewell to Mrs. W. H. 1 Speer, who is leaving shortly for Waiuku, the members of the Rotorua Croquet Cluh held a most enjoyable ; progressive lafternoon on the club's greens at the Government Gardenft last Tuesday afternoon. i Competitive croquet was played un- | til 4 p.m., when a very dainty afternoon tea was served at the club pavilian. The tea tables were artistically arranged with the club's eolours of i red and white, with large bowls of i autumn shaded zinnias. ! After tea, Miis. J. Halkett presented . Mrs. Speer with a heautiful houquet, j and in doing so wished her every hapi piness in her new home. Mrs. B. M. Green, vice-president of the club, on ' behalf of the members, then presented : Mrs. Speer with' two handsome brass candlefsticks, expressing the general regret that she was compelled to relinquish her duties before completing j her term of office as president of the i club. | "I am sure," continued the sp'eaker, j "that I am expressing the sentiments of the cluh wrh'en I say how isorry we are that Mrs. Speer is leaving us and ' how much we .appreciated her services in the capacity of vice-president and ' president during her stay in Rotorua. ] Mrs. Speer, in reply, thanked the ; members for their handsome presents | and their very kindly thoughts so ' wholeheartedly expressed. I She regretted that her term of office had to be curtailed owing to her leav- : ing the district, hut she was departing ! with' the happielst thoughts of her 1 association with the Rotorua Ladies' j Croquet Club. ' Musical honours brought to -a close a very pleasant afternoon. i A tie between Mrs. C. R. Lloyd and j Mrs. E. La Trobe Hill in the A secj tion of the progressive croquet found i Mrs. La Trobe Hill the winner, while i Mrs. J. Banks was the winning compej titor in the B sesction.
