Week-end Cricket There should be some good cricket on the reserve during the week-end when a Matata eleven will play against Opotiki for the Attrill Cup. Mr. D. D. Lunn, who was wicket-keeper to the Auckland Yarsity team, will be amongst the Matata players. Road Repairs , Mr. Steve Shalfoon waited on the Opotiki County Council at it last meeting to request the council to renew the subsidy of £12 a year which had been paid for some time to Messrs. Shalfoon's workman in .order to keep the Kutarere Road in order between the main road at Kutarere and their Kutarere' farm. Mr. Shalfoon pointed out that it was a public road and although a council surfaceman was endeavouring to look after this in addition to his other
engineer was asked to investigate and report. Dangerous Corner The right angle corner on the main road near the Hukuwai Beach was the subject of comment by the chairman at the last Opotiki County Council meeting. Members agreed that the corner was dangerous as it was at present. Action was left in the hands of the engineer to see if ■ any improvement could be effected without too much expense. Ragwort on Island It was reported at the last meeting of the Opotiki County Council that there was a good deal of ragwort growing on the island in the river which the council had leased for grazing. The county clerk, however, reported that he had visited the island recently and one man coiild just about pull all the ragwort out in half a day. It was decided to draw the attention -of the lessee to the matter.
