CAPTAIN SCOTT'S LIFE
THEME OF A PLAY. A highly dramatic German play, dealing with Captain Scott's ill-fated Antarctic expedition, is to be seen in London within the next two months. The English rights have just been secured by the Independent Theatre Club — which is certainly justifying its purpose of giving unusual stage productions — and the piece will be presented at the Kingsway. Clifford Bax has been approached to make the English' adaptation. Among the incidents portrayed in the play are the final stages of the tragic expedition, with Oates setting off across the Polar plateau to sacrifice himself, Scott's death in Mareh, 1912, and the breaking of the news to his widow. The widow, who is now married to Sir Hilton Young, has indicated that she has no objection to the production in London of this play. The Berlin method of production — in which a ehanting chorus was used as a background with remarkable effect — is to be followed in the London version.
