MAIZE FREIGHTS

NO INCREASE IN RATES FROM GISBORNE TO AUCKLAND
Gisborne, Sunday. It has been announeed that as a result of discussions between grain firms and shipping agents that there will be no increase in maize freights to Auckland. Sometime ago the Gisborne Harbour Board heard a deputation on this subject. It was then contended that shipping companies contemplated increasing the existing freight rate. The board, however, declined to take any action, and the resulting position was subject to further negotiations. It is now definitely stated that the freight will not be increased, at least during the early part of the current season. In consequence of this decision growers anticipate being able to obtain the same return for grain at last year.
