ANGLER'S LUCK

LOCAL FISHING FORTNIGHTLY REPORT SHOWS GOOD BAGS TAKEN RIVER FISHING POPULAR Angling has been as popular as ever during the past holiday period and many parties have been out trying their luck. The Conservator of Fish and Game, Mr. A. Kean, issues the following report for the period ended December 31, 1932. „ Rotorua Lakes District Changeable weather conditions made fishing difficult, and accordingly there were not many large bags taken on the fly. Trolling in Rotorua and Rotoiti has been only fair. Fish taken were reported. to be in good. condition. The following catches were reported : — M. Clark, 100, F. Turner, 64, Launch Syipbol, C. Smith and party, 2 rods, 20, Mr. Monkhouse and wife, 34, Rotorua; Clqrk, 19, Rotoiti; Mr.

In the above catches, fish up to 51b. were taken, the average weight being 2^1b. Whakatane-Qpotiki Area The rivers in this area provided rather "patchy" fishing, some anglers on occasions being unable to make a catch at all. The fish being caught, however, were improved in condition particularly those taken from the Tarawera River. The fish were well catered for by an abundance of feed on the bottom of the rivers, and, no doubt this accounts for their good condition. For the fortnightly period the district ranger supplies information regarding 53 different "bags" which is indicative of the popularity of the river fishing in the district. Fish up to 8§lb. were taken, but the average weight of fish taken was between 2i to 2£lb. which is quite good. The following are some of the double figure totals reported: — Mnvir>p 93 Whakatane* W Sentt.

Over the holidays many fishing parties were camped round Lake Waikaremoana. Very good fishing was obtained by launch parties operating in Wairaurnoana.
