FRANCE'S CHALLENGE

(Press. Assn.—

in naval power dunquerque is one of most powerful cruisers afloat TO DOMINATE CHANNEL

-By Telegraph — Copyrlght).

Rec. Dec. 28, 11 p.m. London, Dec. 28. The Daily Telegraph's naval correspondent says that the French battle cruiser, Dunquerque, compliments the British navy by copying the salient features of the H.M.S. Nelson. She will, in effect, be a hattle cruiser version of the Nelson and the Hood, with all the heavy guns in the bow and the boilers and maehinery in the stern. The Dunquerque is an overwhelming reply to Germany's pocket battleships. She is twice as large, four knots an hour faster and fires broadsides twice as heavy as battle cruis--ers. Th'e Dunquerque will he he ahle to engage any warship afloat without any undue risk. In order to neutralise the new German navy. and ensure predominance in the Channel, she will be placed at Brest with two or three proposed sister ships.
