americans' decisive win by four rubbers

Rec. Dec. 28, 11.30 p.m. Melbourne, Dec. 28. In the second tennis test, Australia versus America, America won eight rubbers, 22 sets and 203 games, and Australia four rubbers, 15 sets and 174 games. McGrath (Aust.) defeated Gledhill (U.S.A.) 6-3, 6-3; Allison (U.S.A.) defeated Plopman (Aust.) 6-4, 6-0; Van Ryn (U.S.A.) defeated Sproule (Aust.) 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Vines and Gledhill (U.S.A.) defeated Hopman and Crawford (Aust.) *11-9; 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Perfect conditions prevailed, McGrath created a sensation by defeating Gledhill, raising* Australia's hopes. Hopman, who had played brilliantly throughout" the test went down to Allison, who was superior at court craft. Van Ryn's. victory over Sproule was unexpected.
