XMAS CELEBRATIONS ROTORUA ISSUES WELCOME TO ITS MANY VISITORS A WIEEK OF CARNIVAL To-day, Christmas- Eve, ' will mark the commencement in Rotorua of a week of fun and jollity in keeping with the requirements -of New Zealand's foremost tourist spa - and the festive season, when all dull cares are cast aside and the towp welcomes its many visitors from" near and far. For this year an unsurpassed pr.ogrammq of varied entertainment has been arranged, a pleasing feature, to some extent neglected in past years, being the provision of many interesting evening functions. Although the official programme arranged hy the Rotorua Borough Cquucil, Publicity and Amuse.ment Committse will 'not commence until Monday evening,- visitors will find much to entertain them during to-rday and to-morrow. To-night will be fully 'ocs cupied with the joy of Christmas shopping and to-morrow evening an enjoyable programme of band items will be given in the Towp. Square by the Rotorua Municipal Band, which will he assisted in choral items hy the Ohinemutu Maori choir." During the week-end, large croWds will without doubt take the opportunity of hathing in the main, swimming pool of the Blue Bath which op- . ened last evening,' while others will visit the thermal regions of the district. On Monday afternoon, entHiisiasts of amateur athletic coiitests will be eatered for by the Rotorua AmateUr Athletic and Cycling Club which will ho holding a earnival at the Goveril--ment Grounds. In the evening the week's festivities will he set off with a swing hy the presentation of the Ireedom of Rotorua to King Carnival by His Worship the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson. Following this . openihg a comhined entertainment will ,be prer sented in the Square. Dancers will be eatered for by the management 'of the Majestic Ballroom and the Dixiej land Cabaret and a special programme has been arranged, for,„picture-gpers. Tuesday will be given up to sight-s-eeing and the continuatipn of the Rotorua Lawn Tennis Club's tourney while the bowling and1 croquet lawns will also reeeived much patronage. In tlxe evening, all roads will lead. to the Blue Bath buildings wh'ere a swim- , r.xiing carnival in the new main swimming pool will he held. Features of tlxe remaiixing week's in'ograxxxme will he the x-ecital of the Young Australia League Touring Band at the Lyric Theatre on "Wednesday evening, the official masked ball at tlxe Sylvana Ballroom o'n Thursday evening, and the typically Maori aisplay and hangi on Friday evening in the Town Square. On Saturday, New Year's Eve, ehildren's competitions will be held in the Square during the afternoon in conjunction with a decorated motor vehicle procession through the main streets and in the evening the jollity will reaeh its height with the niidnight celebration of the ushering in of the New Year. This will conclude the official programme hut two interesting entertainments for Monday January 2, will he tlxe inter-tribal regatta and carnival at Ohinemutu and the rodeo at the Springfield Caxnp Stadiuxix.
