Because he could not pay a judgment fiebt for £8 15s to a local firm and was faced with the option of spending seven days in gaol, Charles Williams, a traveller, of Hamilton, b'orrowed £6 and filed his petition in bankruptcy. This was the unusual reason he advanced for his failure, when meeting his creditors to-day. His liabilities total £393, and the nominal value of his assets is £10. As there was no quorum the meeting was adjourned.
