RETURN MATCH

DEPARTMENTAL GAME So popular was the cricket match played between the Tourist Department and the Native Land Board some weeks ago that a second match was arranged and played between the teams during the week-end. A number of alterations were made in the Native Land Board team while Jenkins replaced Gosling for Tourist. The result of the game gave victory to the Land Board by 45 runs thus avenging the previous defeat and making the issue between the teams all square. No doubt this decision will provide a legitimate excuse for a third meeting. Native Land Board batted first but showed none of the dash which they displayed in tha previous match and were all out for 64 runs, to which Tourist replied with 74. In this total Penno made a good contribution of 43 runs, while Morgan was the most successful bowler for the Land Board. In the second innings, Land Board had Tourist on the run and amassed a fcotal of 144 runs, Mitchell (60) and Hamilton (41) being the main scorers. With a deficit of 134 runs Tourist could secure only 89 of this total. Mason, who scored an undefeated 38, was the highest scorer during the innings.
