CHRISTMAS PARTY

ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON SCHOOL BREAK-UP. As a fitting finale to the end of the Christmas term, the headmaster and teaching staff of the Primary School entertained the pupils at a very jolly Christmas party at the Majestic Ballroom on Tuesday afternoon. Tlie hall was kindly lent for the purpose by Mr. E. Shalfoon. There was an extremely large attendance of mothers and children present and throughout the afternoon a happy atmosphere prevailed, which reached its climax when Father Christmas descended the chimney bringing his tidings of goodwill and a saclc of good things for the children. The fancy costmnes worn by the children were of a very high standard and in each seetion the judging was made very difficult owing to the

number of origmai cnaracters represented. In each clas3 the variety was good and evidenced the care and trouble which had been taken with the costumes — ahnost always prepared by mothers who are even busier than usual at this season of the year. Enjoyable Programme. During the afternoon some very enjoyable items were rendered by the pupil3 themselves under the supervision of their class teachers, each number reflecting great credit npon the efforts of the tutors. The programme was headed by the infants' dance by Miss N. Holland's pnp'ils. Misst, Holland accompanied her charges with a ukulele. "Sing a Song of Sixpence" seemed a most adequate refrain for these small mites to dance to, and their quaintness and elfin appearance appealed greatly to their audience. A folk dance by Miss Yuglar's squad was notable for excellent rhythm, while Miss Hillcoat's Tin Soldier3 bore themselves with a notable military air which went well with their smart costumes of red and black. Mis3 Faram's girls performed a most pleasing and artistic dance, showing rhythm and dainty movement. A display of physical drill followed, and the smart manner in which each movement was carried out showed the keen team co-operation of the boys. A contrast to the dancing was a pi-'etty unison song, "Childhood Days," by pupils of Miss Matthews, and iigure marching by Miss Pattons' squad comp'leted a most enjoyable programme. After the presentation hy Mrs. B. M. Green, of the prizes won in the fancy dress seetion, with a flare of trumpets and joyous cries from the eager children, old Santa arrived. | looking his jovial self despite his | sooty entrance. This was obviously [ the main event of the afternoon, and | the two heavily laden Christmas trees were soon deplete^ of their burdens. I Before it departed, each' child was I presented with two mystery bag3 containing goodies always dear to childish hearts.
