ROAD CYCLING

The final road race of the season was held on Saturday, the Whakatane Athletic and Cycling Club staging a race from Te Puke. The limit man, Ryan, left on his long journey at 11.31 a.m., 29 minutes ahead of the scratch men,i Aberhart, Hansen and Stewart. Th'e going was hard, some parts of the road being very dusty. Coulter, off 16 minutes, caught and passed Ryan at Otakiri, and finished in Whakatane an easy winner. Ryan was second, 50 yards ahead of two scratch men, Hansen and Aberhart. These two riders were congratulated by his Worship the Mayor, Mr. W. Sullivan, on this effort. Hansen secured fastest time riding the course in Ihr 54min. Only four men finished out of eleven starters. The prizes were presented by Mr. Sullivan in the presence of a large crowd of spectators.
