COLLISION BETWEEN CAR AND YOUTH ON BICYCLE

An accident which fortunately didnot have very serious consequences oecurred at Glen's corner on the main Whakatane-Rotorua road shortly before mid-day on Sun day. A motor car driven by Mr. Tickner, of Awakeri, was proceeding towards Te Teko and when rounding the corner met a youth named Fisher on a bicycle coming in the opposition direction. In trying to avoid the bicycle, ; Mr. Tickner swerved his car, but the collision could not be averted. The bicycle was badly smashed, but Mr. Fisher escaped with a severe shaking. ROWING The final race for the Whakatane Rowing Club's trial f ours was held on the river on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. The two contesting crews comprised : — B. Norman (stroke), W. Brown, A. Hollis, B. Fountain (cox), T. De • Lacey. L. Grace (stroke), N. Taylor, L. Delahunty, K. Staiger (cox), S. Grace. The race which was rowed on choppy water was a good one, Norman's crew received a slight adyantage at the distance when one of the members of the opposing crew missed a stroke. This advantage was maintained and the margin at the finishing post was not less than two lengths. The winners become the holders of the Bergman trophy for the season.
