PATEA FARMER SHOT WHEN OPENING HIS DOOR
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
Hawera, Friday. Mystery surrounds the shooting at Patea on Thursday night of William Jones Carradus, who was wounded in the leg by an unknown assailant. Mr. Carradus heard a knock at the front door of his residence about 8 p.m. He answered the door, but could not see anyone. He then went round the side of the house to see if the person who knocked had gone to the back door. As he turned to reenter the house, a shot was fired at him from the darkness and he fell with a bullet wound in the leg. He was removed to hospital and following an operation, his condition is regarded as satisfactory. Mr. Carradus is unable to throw any light on the episode.
