N.Z. OFFICEES SENTENCED

London, Oetoher 20. Ernest Toms (44), finance officer, and Arnold Hore (46) auditor, in the New Zealand High Commissioner's Office, appeared at Bow Street today, on charges of stealing moneys belonging to the New Zealand Government. They pleaded guilty and were sentenced to a year and nine months respectively in the second division. Toms' defalcations amounted to £1850 since 1926 and Hore's to £760. Millions had passed intact through Toms' hands. The salaries of each had been cut down to £660 per year and they tried to live on their former scale of pay and got into diffieulties. Both drew money allegedly as advances on salary while simultaneously drawing the full amount due. Toms made a full confession.
