MATMAN IN COURT
DAMAGES CLAIMED FOR ALLEGED BREACH OF CONTRACT Wellington, Monday. Bull Montana, the American wrestler and ex-movie stax-, appeared in the Magisti'ate's Court to-day as defendant in a claim by the National Sporting Club, Ine., for allegcd breach of contx*act. The club maintained that some months ago, after negotiations between the Show Association aixd A1 Haft, defendant's manager in Anxerica, transportation was ax-ranged for Montaxxa, who arrived at Auckland on August 15. The terms accepted by Montana were contained in a cable, which offered him five matches, the wrestlers to take half the gate, and the train and boat fare to be paid. Prior to arriving Montana had agreed with the Auckland Wrestling Association to wrestle Kaplan on August 20, and it was alleged that this eonstituted a bx'each of contract. Montana wrestled Demetral at Wellington on August 22, and arrangements were made for him to appear against Thompson on August 29. Thompson was not available, however, and Kool-
map was substituted. Montana at first agreed to the substitution, but later refused to wrestle. The plaintiffs claimed £101 17s 3d special damages and a further £98 general damages for breach of contract. Montana in evidence said that he was advised that his prograxnme provided matches with Thompson, Walker and Maxxxos. Thoxxxpson said he never agreed with the Show Association to wrestle Montana. Mr. Page reserved his decision.
