BASKETBALL

SCHOOL TOURNAMENT ORGANISED AT WAIOTAHI Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jeffery, of Waiotahi, recently donated a shield for competition amongst basketball teams from the surrounding country schools. Owing to the difficulty of > arranging transport, it was decided to hold a knoclcout tournament at Waiotahi School this year and at other schools in rotation in succeeding years. Considerable enthusiasm was shown at the first tournament held on Saturday and a large number ox spectators watched the games. The results were: — First Round: — Waiotahi, 20 v. Paerata, 8; Waingara, 17 v. Kutarere, 3; Woodlands, a bye.

Second Round: — Woodlands, 11 v. Waiotahi, 16. Final: — Waiotahi, 9 v. Waingara, 6. At the conclusion of the tourney, Mi's. Jeffery presented the shield to the winning team.
