STOLE RING
BUT GIRL COULD NOT GET IT OFF FINGER In the Whakatane police eourt on Tuesday before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., Ivan Collett, a youth, 18 years of age, was charged with stealing a gold watch, gold ring, a cheque and other articles belonging to Geo. Powell, of Te Teko. He was further charged with stealing a valuable brooch, the property of Mrs. Power. A plea of guilty was entered. Constable Cummings stated that the boy's environment was not of the best and wliilst he had not been in trouble before, indications were that he was likely to enter on a career of crime. The boy said that he know where the watch and the brooch were and could get them. The ring had been given to a girl who, after having placed it on her finger, could not get it off again. The ring had to be filed with the result that it was now of little value. Collett was committed to a Borstal institution for a pex'iod xxot exceeding two years.
