UNEMPLOYMENT
C. J.
TUCK.
(To the Editor). Sir, — I am sorry Mr. Vaile has taken my levity seriously and descended to personal abuse. Of eourse two could play at that game, but I am afraid your columns would not be open to me to express my. views. You see, sir, I was once a bullock driver and mayhap am handier with the whip than the pen. I was in hopes that that inimitable Robin Hood (Mr. Vaile) would challenge me, but since he has so ingloriously backed out, I must now challenge him to debate his "Causes and Cures" of unemployment, tbe deeision to be signified by those present in the hall which the winner will pay for. My "soap box" oratory may not be so profound as Mr. Vaile's cultured phrases, but I'll guarantee to make it interesting and illuminating. Perhaps I can show him and the public, who are the actual robbers, and how employment can be given to those now seeking remunerative work witbout being herded on to two to ten-acre farms with a landlord holding out his* hand every half-year for rents, which eannot be produced from the holding; we want free men in New Zealand not slaves, thus I hope to shed my "vailes." — I am, etc.
