MEASURES PROPOSED TO RESTORE NORMAL CONDITIONS STIMULATING EMPLOYMENT

Rec. Sep. 6, 7.45 p.m. Syclney, Sept. 6. With traditional ceremonial, the New South Wales Parliament opened to-day. The Governor's speech set out the legislation programme of the Stevens' Government, whieh will be confined mainly to urgent measures affording relief which the present economic conditions demand, particnlarly in the direction of stimulating re-em-ployment. The tendency to an improvement in commodity prices overseas is regarded as a matter for gratification. The Government anticipated appreciable impetus in the export trade from the Ottawa agreement, also from the forthcoming world economic conference. The legislature will eonsider measures, fixing the standard working week in various industries, permitting better relations between employers and employees, and generally lightening the burden of the primary producers, the extension of the moratorium provision and the extension of powers to municipalities to acquiro and provide land for small holdings.
