HISTORIC SKETCHES

SCENES FROM EARLY HISTORY OF N.Z. Sydney, Sep. 5. In an article written for the Sydney Morning Herald, Mr. Eric Ramsden, a New Zealand journalist, reealls the existence of several sketches by Lieutenant Thomas Woore, an officer of the warship Alligator, which rescued Mrs. Guard and her cliild from the Taranaki coast in 1884. As Lieutenant Woore was an eye witness of the incident, Mr. Ramsden regarded the sketches, which have been in the possession ^ of the Busby family for half a eentury, as being of historic value to.New Zealand-. Other sketches, none of which have hitherto been described, include scenes at the Bay of Islands, Whangaroa and Kapiti.
