Rec. Sept. 2, 12.10 a-m. Sydney, September 1. The Saywell murder inquiry was continued. Detectiye Matthews read a statement by Jack .Saywell, wherein the latter said that his mothe-r disapproved becaus-e he intended to marry a Roman Catholic girl, adding that she and his f ather would cut him out of the will, but Jack had answered, "I am only a kid, mother," and said he had no intention of getting marpied. , Detectiye Matthews said that Jack seemed distressed about his father's apparent decision on the morning of the tragedy. Jewellery worth about £2000, which had been thought missing, was subse-r quently found on the top of a shelf of his mother's wardrobe. Blood stains were on his father's sleeping clothes, but no money was missing. The p.olice endeavoured to obtain finger prints, but without success. After evidence was given by Jack's girl, Jean Cornerford, aged 18 years, and also- by other witnesses, the coroner adjourned the inquiry until September 16 . in the hope that Mrs Saywell would be able to speak.and recollect the events of the night of the tragedy- . .. The coroner added that Jack must have suffered terrible remorse during the past few weeks, "I do not think, so far as the evidence is conce-rned, that he need lose further sleep," he added. After hearing this, the young man became overcome with e-motion and created a pathetic scene in the courthouse.
