Auckland, Thursday. Proposals have been filed by the employers for a new award with the Auckland Creameries, Cheese and Butter Factories Union to replace the award which expired in 1931. An allround 10 per cent. reduction in wages is sought, and with respect to youths, ' changes designed to enable employers to take on more boys are proposed. For butter factories the- hours. of worlc suggested are 56 per week of seven days from August 1 to March 31 ,and 44 hours from April 1 to July 31. The present hours are 56 a week from August 15 to March 15, and 44 for the other months, so : that the effect of the suggested alteration is to add a month to the period in which more hours are work- ! edThere are to be no fixed hours for , cheese factories. These will be fixed , according to the time it takes to ■ mawe the cheeses. The present hours ; aro 6Q hours from August 14 to May 14, 48 hours from May 15 to June 16 and 38 hours from June 17 to Aug- , ust 13. . • , It is proposed to pay youths undei - 20 starting at manufacture 15/-. s l week for the first year, 22/6 for thc - second and 30/- for the third.
