MANY CRASHES IN BIG &PEED CAR RACES HUGE AUDIENCE

Rec. Aug. 21, 5.5 p.m. London, August 20. Driving in a big car race at Belfast, Fred Dixon, the famous driver led from the start to half distance and then overturned. C. Whiteroft, his team mate, then took the lead and won in 298 minutes, four seconds, averaging 73 2-3 miles an hour. Dyston followed, 83 seconds later, then came Hall and Earl Howe. Nearly 500,000 people, including Miss Joan Richmond, witnessed the thrilling race, which involved several crashes. Thirty-two drivers started and eight finished. Major Gardiner, a cripple, broke his leg. Sir Henry Burton broke the lap record, covering the circuit in 592 seconds.
