Sydney, August 20. The new Metropolitan 'Traffic Act regulations give the police in-5 creased power to control pedestrians. They place upon the walker the onus of avoiding a collision with a vehicle. From today "jay walking" in the city streets becomes an offence. It is also against the regulations to walk across the city streets at right angles, or to eros s a street except under the hand of a trafSc policeman. To stand in the street except in the safety zone, to stand at or near a corner or to carry certain parcels are also offences. Shopkeepers may be prevented from making window displays that attract crowds. It is also an offence to speak, shout, sing, or play in a manner afctracting a crowd. Touting for passengers or goods, or on behalf of hotels and booking•houses is also rorhidden.
