London, August 19. Sweltering heat continues throughout the Continent, exceeding the century in many places in eastern Europe. London is unbearably hot, resulting in remarkable sights in the streets. Thousands of men and women are journeying to work without stockings. Some are even parading Oxford and Bond Streets in bathing costumes and men are walking the streets carrying their i coats. 1 Many drownimgs have been re- j ported. The temp^erature in London today was 93 — the hottest since 1917.
