— By Telegrajih — Copyright)
Madrid, August 19. The passage of the "Monarchist Rebels' Expropriation Bill" was promptly followed by the arrest of three important noblemen. As the result of the Bill many hundreds of thousands of acres of valuable land and water rights and dues, 1 owned by wealthy landowners, who are nOw in prison, will become the property of the State. The extent of individual expropriations will depend on the finding of j the inquiry into responsibility for the • Monarchist plot. Implicated lad- ! owners will only be entitled to an ' allowance sufficient for a bare existence, and then only if the seized lands ' are their sole sources of income. j The publieation of Conservative j papers is still suspended. ; The Marquis of Mastonde, a prom- ! inent aristocrat, was shot dead in his 1 own home to-day, following a violent ' al'cercation over money matters with ; his hall porter. t
