By Telegraph — Copyright).
HAMILTON, Monday. ' Welcome rain fell in th'e Waikato throughout last night and this morning, and while of insufficient duration and intensity as yet to have the desired effeet, it holds promise that tae protraeted dry spell has at last heen arrested. A taorough 48 hours' soaking . is essential to assure pastures springing away again. Production, generally, has suffered as a result of the dry weather prevailing, and nnless urgent relief is forthcoming it is feared that the new season's returns will he seriously affected. This morning, Mr. Dynes Fulton, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., stated that the rain now falling was like showers of gold. "It is many, many years since. 'we have seen the land so dry and mellow at this period of the year, as a re- " sult of tae long dry spell and severe frosts, and, indeed, it is a long time since I have seen th'e pastures so short over such a large area of country," he said. "With the warm rain such as we are receiving, feed should come away very rapidly, and every in- . dication is for a rapid- growth and an early spring," he added.
