EX-OFFICER ON TEES CHARGED WITH OFFENCE
-By Telegraph — CopjrightG
CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. George Thomas Mouncer (86), a ship's officer residing at Lyttelton, was charged this morning with placing a bomb on the steamer Tees, with intent to do bodily injury to Captain A. B. Anderson. He was remanded until Thursday. Counsel's application for bail was opposed by the police, who said that the bomb had been placed on the Tees evidently with the intention of injuring the captain. It appeared to be really attempted murder. Counsel: "I don't think it is in any way as , serious as the charge looks, but I make no admissions at this stage." The Magistrate, Mr. T. Lowry: "The intent may not have been as serious as the effect. I think accused had better remain in custody." Mouncer resides with his invalid mother and brother in Lyttelton. He had lately been engaged in relief work. Prior to that he was chief officer on the Tees and subsequently in command of the steam trawler Muriel.
