BRAZILIAN REVOLT DEVELOPS INTO EXTENSIVE CONFLICT
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
SOA PAULO, Monday. The civil war against the Vargas Government, involving 100,000 combatants, who are equipped with modern aeroplanes, tanks and artillery has grown into the biggest conflict in South American history, and has entered the fifth week, with victory for either army most remote. The Brazilian revolution quite overshadows the Bolivian-Paraguayan shadow-hoxing, which so far has accounted for the loss of probably less than a dozen lives. The city of Rio de Janeiro has not for many years been so near the fighting area. A few sanguinary encounters have occurred almost in the city suburbs. The rebels' plan is an attack against Rio, and only -by the most persistent offensive have the Federal troops been able to keep them away. The Brazilian Government 'is bloeking the shipping service an Santos, which is causing tremendous havoc in that famous coffee port. The present outlook is that fighting may continue for another month'.
