ROTORUA DISTRICT

FALL ON HIGHER LEVELS I Reminiscent of an ,old-English I countrjr-side were the conditions i • which greeted those Rotorua residents who charily poked their noses ] above the blankets yesterday morning. A chilly rain was descending on a snow-bound world and the hills around the tovra were clad in a white mantle, which quiekly melted as the rays of the sun broke through the ^ow-lying clouds. From various parts of the district the "Morning Post" correspondents report falls of snow ranging from ten inches at Taupo to a slight sprinkling at Mamaku. At Reporoa, the whole of the ranges are white. At the back of Mr. W. Panham's far'm and on Mr. Handcock's property it is very thick whilst a snow-fiurry was seen on Tauhara Mountain. Both Tarawera mountain and Rainbow mountain have caps of snow.
