SORRY TO LEAVE
praise for town BRITISH LEAGUE TEAM ENJOYS ROTORUA VISIT SHORT VISIT TO TAUPO — ^ "We are really sorry to leave this charming and weird spot," said Mr. R. F. Anderton, one of the joint managers of the British League football team to a "Morning Post"_ representative yesterday morning just before the team left for Hamilton. He said that the Leaguers had had a remarkably good time whilst in Rotorua and district and had been most hospitably entertained wheraver they went. "The team was just beginning to feel a bit stale on it," he added, "and a spell in your lovely town will work wonders in toning the men up to faee the rest of the tour. I suppose the tour of Australia which he have just finished is the most strenuous ever undertaken by a touring side. We travelled 2500 miles and played four matches all in the course of nine days. And on those ■ Australian trains too. They're awful, not half so good as those you have here." "Yes," continued Mr. Anderton, "we have had a wonderful time, and I must say that your hotel here (he was alluding to Brent's) is the best we have stopped at on our journey. Nothing was too much trouble for them to do for the boys and they only wish they were staying longer. The manager Mr. "Mick" Hutton was always on hand and he had everything just right. He also gave us great entertainment and when he got Mr. Epi Shalfoon to come along with his orchestra for the final evening, the boys had a great time. That orchestra would be popular in England; it does things differently to the ordinary ones." Visit to Taupo On Tuesday the team paid a surprise visit to Taupo. Although their stay there was necessarily brief, local residents seized the opportunity to rally round and give them a rousing welcome. After lunching at the Lake Hotel, they were met by the ehairman of the Taupo Road Board who, on behalf of the citizens, extsnded a welcome to them and said that, had th'e town been aware sooner of the visit, there would have been a far bigger gathering. N'evertheless the town was proud to have the honour of entertaining them. As a memento of the visit Mr. J. P. Sheehan presented the manager of the team (Mr. R. F. Anderton) with a large mounted trout for which members of the team had expressed admiration. Mr. Anderton thanked the ehairman of the Road Board for his courtesy and also thanked Mr. Sheehan for the present which would serve as a reminder to them of one of the numerous attractions of the district. Later the team left to vi&it the thermal sights at Wairakei.
