SULKY AND SADDLE

"Misere.")

trotting notes .

SEASON FOR YEAR OPENS AT ADDINGTON ON SATURDAY. PROSPECTS OF THE RUNNERS.

(Notes by

The new trotting season opens at headquarters on "Saturday at Addington with the Metropolitan Trotting Club's August meeting, the acceptances constituting a record for winter racing. The initial event is the Introductory for the square-gaiters, and no less than a dozen who have gone 3.32 for the H mile are set down. Katute ran so well at the Relief Meeting, that off the limit she will command a good deal of support. First Wrack may not carry the necessary condition and Gay Paree is as uncertain as her name implies. Arctotis has a fair form record, but Todd Lonzia, on his Hutt performances, should hold him safe. All Peters seems the best of the backmarkers, for Ambition has a lot of leeway to make up from 60 yds. The tote may show: Todd Lonzia Katute All Peters from — INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP (Trotters) of 150sovs. One mile and a half. Limit 3.32. First Wrack, Gay Paree, Great Amazon, Katute, Merce Bingen, Repute, Todd Bingen, Limit; Arctotis, Dolores, Todd Lonzia, 24; All Peters, 48; Ambition, 60. A bare half-dozen are carded for the Advance Handicap which is limited to four-year-olds run over a 11 mile distance at a 2.56 clip. Still the field is a classy one, for it includes the winners of the G.N. Derby and the N.Z. Derby of last year, with improvers like Avernus and Lord Leslie. It is very open, and condition will play a prominent part so early in the season. Form points to: Avernus Ciro Tempest from — ADVANCE HANDICAP (Four-year-olds) of 200sovs. One mile and a quarter. Limit 2.56. Avernus, -Eureka Boy, Lone Derby Lord Leslie, On Parade, Limit; Ciro 12 yards behind; Tempest, 24 yards behind. The chief event, the August Handicap, eomes next, i(nd the automatic handicap has brought the field so close that it is no easy race to sort out. Golden Pedro and Muriel de Oro are on the peg together, and the ginger gentlemart is the one preferred on recent form. Arethusa is on a handy mark, and Bryce has her well. Linkman does not appeal on his recent running, but one can never be certain about Reremai. The grey mare may not be at the meeting, but if she is, she must be respected for she is always liable to bob up. Auto Machine has been going exceptionally well in his work and must have a show. King Pointer probably needs a bit more work. Lindbergh comes in the same category as Linkman. Red Shadow should be very tough, but on recent form Regal Voyage migiit tip both off. Little recent form attaches to Free Adviee or Author Jinks, and Carmel may not start. Roi l'or is said not to be reauy so it boils down to: Regal Voyage Red Shadow Are'thusa with Reremai likely to upset the pot. from — August Handicap, of 500 sovs. Two miies. Limit 4.29. Golden Pedro, Muriel de Oro, Limit; Arethusa, -Linkman, Reremai, 12 yards behind; Auto Mach-.ne, King Pointer, Lindbergh, Red Shadow, 24 yards behind; Regai Voyage, 36 yards behind; Free Acivice. 48 yards behind; Author Jinks, Carmel, Roi L'Or, 60 yards behind. There is not much to choose in the Trial Handicap, the seeded class two-miler with a 4.40 to 4.35 limit. \Vrecker, Wild Guy, Erin's Lynn, and Netta Oro all must be given a show. Nirnbus has better time to his eredit as has Silver d'Oro, but these wero done in hard going. However Wrecker is so consistent that it looks like: Wrecker Wild Guy Nimbus from — TRIAL HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. Two miles. Limit 4.40 to 4.35. Nelsonian, Nimbus, Nono Bingen, Rokena, Silver d'Oro, War Paint, Wrecker, limit; Gold Tinge, Tactless, Wild Guy, 12 yards behind; Awaiti, Gunfire, Keip, 24 yards behind; Erin's Lynn, Netta Oro, 36 yards behind. The tv/o-mile tiotters provides a hard puzzle and the winner is well conceaied. The class is tight at 4.40, and most have done a bit btt^er. In an open go the best may be: ' Mountain Mist Biddy Parrish Great Way from — STEWARDS' HANDICAP ( Trotters), of 250 sovs. Two miles. Limit 4.40. Great Nelson, Mountain Mist, j Valloden, limit; Gemlight, 12 yards | behind; Boneta, Nelson Ata, New i Melford, 24 yards behind; Ambition, j Quiekfiie, 36 yards behind; Biday ' Parrish, Gieat Way, 48 yards be- | h'ud; Fifa, 60 yards behind; Huon • Voyage, 84 yards behind; Stanley _ T., 98 yards behind. j There v/ill ba a msh to be with Mountain Ore In the Qreen Maxy by those who no„ed his run at Ivleth- • ven, but he has one or two behind . him which might cause him troublo. . Nelson's Victory is fast but "iffy," and the same appiies to Slr Guy. Great Parrish has not done so well down soutli, but Wilma Dillon is said to be tn fine nick. Ayrmont Chimos is sure to be weli-baeked, whilst Steel All and Sunny Bob are v/orth corsiderat-ion. It is as well to remember that there is a second day. B'ancies may include : | , Mountai® Ore Ayrmcnt Chhnes Stee! All from — QUEEN MARY HANDICAP, of

250 sovs. Two miles. Limit, 4.35 to 4.29. Editor, Mountain Ore, limit; Nelson's Victory, Royal Comrade, Sir Gny, Gunchild, Wilma Dillon, 12 yards behind, Pluto, 60 yards behind. Lind, Nimble Direct, 24 yards behind; Ayrmont Chimes, Cyone, Harvest Child, Steel All, 36 yards behind; Dillon Logan, Sunny Bob, 48 yards behind; Pluo, 60 yards behind. The 2.48 Selwyn Handicap is a proper puzzle and the man who can sort out the winner deserves a good divvie. Perhaps the most sought after candidates will be: Herod Arachne Grand Canyon from — SELWYN HANDICAP, of 300 sovs. One mile and a quarter. Limit 2.48. Aleron, Apex, Brentlight, Dusolina, Country King, Eugene de Oro, Herod, Morrison, Roddy, Somerby, Sunny Morn, Wilbur White, . limit; Arachne, Avenger, Baron Bingen, Colorado, Grand Canyon, Morning Sun, Oiive Nelson, Tarndale, Wrackeen, 12 yards behind; Neeo:o, 24 yards behind. The last event of the day, the International Mile at a 2.12 c'ip, has provided the most interesting race of the day if form and performances work out Enawah from Tamahere has not gone down for nothing, and her party makes no secret of the fact that they expect to go well. George Rey is vei'y handy and Impromptu should make his presenc-e f elt. Nimble Di ect, Glenrossie and Cranleigh may go w e'l, and fancies will take a wide range, w-hich majr include: Enawah George Rey Impromptu from — INTERNATIONAL HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. One mile. Lirnit 2.12. Bednda, Colonial Boy, Gold Country, Mac Dillon, Neero, Nimble Direct, Pluto, Princess Mauritius, Sir Author, Wilma Dillon, limit; Cranleigh, Enawah, .George Rey, Impromptu, 12 yards behind; Glenrossie, Great Logan, Rollo, 24 yards behind; Carmel, 48 yards behind.
