PROFESSOR ABUSED
TARRED AND FEATH.ERED FOR WRITING WAR BOQK. Tarred and feathered, clad only in a pair of bathing slips and with a placard slung on his back inscribed "War, Wine and Women," Professor H. P. Lamont, a member of the Senate of the University of Pretoria, was to-day pushed out of a motor car in Church Square, the main square of Pretoria. Professor Lamont declares that he was set upon in his garden by four men, who drove him to a spot outside the city, where the outrage was committed. 'War, Wine and Women," is the titb of a recently published war hook in which certain Afrikander characteristics are criticised. ffts authorship has been a mystery. Later, four men, one of whom was known to be an ex-student of Pretoria University, called at the office of ''Die Volkstem" and admitted their implication in the affair. They declare that after asking Professor Lamont if he were the author of "War, Wine and Women," they drove him to a garage and made him don a bathing costume, afterwards tarring and feath'ering him.
