ROTORUA VOLUNTEER CADETS PRESENTED WITH N.Z. TROPHY ) An interesting ceremony took place at Arawa Park on Saturday afternoon during the interval between the junior and senior Rugby matehes, when Colonel J. E. Duigan, D.S.O., O.C. Northern Command, presented the Earl Jellicoe trophy in the competition for the llmperial Challenge Shield to the Rotorua volunteer cadets, who obtained the highest score for New Zealand in this year's contest. The deputy-mayor, Mr. G. Urquhart, represented the Borough Council at the ceremony. In making the pres'entation, Colonel Duigan said that he was very pleased to have the op'portunity to come to present the trophy to the Rotorua team, which had obtained the highest score in the Imperial Challenge Shield competition for New Zealand. Not only this, but they had obtained the highest score for the Empire over open sights. He then presented the cup to W. Donaldson, leader of the team, and the King's trophy, a bronze medal suitably engraved, to S.S.M. W. Bates, as the trainer of the team. Mr. Urquhart said that he first had to apologise for the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, who yras out of town. He congratulated the team on its splendid effort, and said that the town had every reason to be proud of tbe team's success. It was fitting that tbe members of the team should be given a small memento to recall their excellent perfonnances. He then handed an envelope containing a silver medal to each rnember of the team on b'ehalf of the mayor and councillors. The personnel of the team is as follows: W. Donaldson, K. Donaldson, P. Allen, C. Bates, P. Gainsford, H. Lewis, H. Montague and R. Henderson.
