The course ehosen for the event was from the Arawa Park gates to the turn-off to Waiotapu and back, a distance of approximately 35 miles." The fwo limit men, G. Dahlin and H. Howe (Rotorua) left the starting point sharp at 2 p.m. followed at intervals by the other contestants, the scratch men N. Howe (Rotorua), Tasker and Waugh (Waikato) leaving at 2.15 p.m. About eight mil'es out the scratch men had gained considerably on the rest of the field, all three

still being together. The limit men were riding well but Bull and Anderson (Waikato) were gaining ground and eventually passed th'em, three miles from the turn. Tasker was riding particularly well, and before reach- , ing the turn, had left Waugh, N. Howe having dropped back still further. Bull, Dahlin, Barnett and Hyde made the turn at 3.2 p.m. and were followed 2 minutes later by R. Haycock. Hampton and M. Bell were together in turning at 3.5 p.m., the latter having gained 3 minutes on his attendant. At intervals of a minute, came Tasker, Henry and Waugh, the scratch men having regained about 10 minutes from the limit men. More ground was gained by Tasker and Waugh in the first few miles of the return trip, M. Bcll having to retire with cramp. N. Howe and J. Spencer also dismounting. Hyde and Barnett had taken the lead, but Tasker was still making fast time. Against the wind, however, the handicap proved too great for him and he could not head off the leaders. Both Hyde and Barnett sprinted when the Whaka Road was reached and a close finish gave the firstnamed the deeision by 8 seconds. The next four riders to finish were Hampton, Bull, Tasker and Waugh, in that order. McCall was the first local rider to cross the finishing line. Fastest time for the distance was made by R.
