ENGLAND DEFEATS N.Z. TEAM BY 24 POINTS TO 9. AUCKLAND, Saturday. Playing the first Rugby League Test match against New Zealand today, the English tourists defeated the home team by 24 points to 9, the match being played in ideal weather, before about 20,000 spectators. The game throughout, was one of tense struggles and spectacular incidents, but the better combined play of the tourists placed the decision in their favour. Playing in his first Rugby League Test match, A. E. Cooke was the mainstay of the New Zealand team, and was always on the ball. The final result was: — England 24, New Zealand 9.
