ORPHANS' CLUB

LADIES' NIGHT The Opotiki Orphans' Club held its first ladies' evening on Saturday last. Mr. H. Rowland (ehairman), opened the evening with a speech of welcome to the ladies and other guests and the following programme was given: — Orchestra, over ture; song, Bro. W. Moore; instrumental trio; song, Mrs Duff; vOcal quartette; comic orchestra (community singing), Bro. Caskowiski, song, Bro. V. Elliott; recitation, Mrs Debreceny; violin solo, Miss D. Wolfe; song, E. Boyce; cornet solo, Bro. Parkinson. Following the musical items there was a brief interval for dancing. After supper, the ehairman briefly explained the aims and objects of the Orphans' Club to the ladies. He pointed out that thejr were trying to make the evening a typical Orphans' evening and that he was very pleased indeed to see so many ladies present as this pointed to the fact that they were taking a keen interest in the club.
