MEETING OF PROTEST HELD BY WORKERS AT RUAWARO

HUNTLY, Tuesday. A special meeting is being held at the Ruawaro single men's camp to-day It is understood that the question of a strike against the working conditions is being considered. While the men have expressed satisfaction at the food and accommodation, they have repeatedly protested against the- pay, which averages about 7s 6d per man per week, and the conditions under which they have to work. The job in hand is the draining of an area of swamp, where work is extremely difficuh and disheartening in inclement weather. Some lime ago tho men asked to be placed ori road work during the winter, stating their wiPingness to return to the swamp in the summer.
