34 TRUCKS OF DYNAMITE

CAPETOWN, Mon. Probably thc greatest erfplosion in peace history occurred at Leeundoornstad, near Klerksdorp (Transvaal), when the largest single consignment of dynamite ever carried (contained 34 trucks), blew up in one blinding flash. Eight were killed, but the driver and fireman of the train miraculously escaped and ihe locomotive was undamaged. A trench 15 feet deep and 300 yards long was made in the permanent way. A number of houses in the village were badly damaged, but fortunately the place is not thickly populated.
