CHINESE MANHANDLED BY MASKED MEN IN WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON, Monday. Suddenly appearing ina room at tho rear of the shop of a Chinaman named Ali Lai, in Pirie Street, nt 11.30 on Friday night, two masked men, allegedly armed with revolvers, demanded lus money. The Chinaman resisted and eallod for assistance. The intrudors thereupon soverely manhandled, gagged, and tied him up, disappeavmg with £4. Doteetivoa on Saturday arrested Alhert Ernest Clifton, labourer (24), and Leonard Humphreys, salesman (23), charging them with the olfence, and to-day thew were remanded by the magistrate, Mr. W. H. Woodward, until Wednesday.
