Blue Bath Re-opened The Blue Baths, which have been closed for two weeks for tiling purposes was largely attended by the public when re-opened last evening, and all were appreciative of the clean appearance which the tiled sides and bottom give to the bath. Deer Stalking Accident While out deer stalking yesterday morning, Walter Taylor, of Tirangi,* National Park, had the misfortune-to, slip and fall on his hunting kmf'e which punctured his left arm. Hospital at 2.30 p.m. and last night his conditi'on was reported to he satisfactory. - Saturday's Road Race The next road cycle race of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will he beld on Saturday next. The course chosen is from Fenton Street to the turn-off to Waiotapu on the Taupo Road and return. The distance is approximately 35 miles and entries for the race will close with the Secretary (Mr. C. J. Casey) tomorrow, at 5 p.m. Old Clothes Drive The drive for old clothes and boots made by the 1st Rotorua troop of Boy Scouts, proved a wonderful success, the door to door collection by th'e >enthusiastic scouts bringing in a great variety and quantity of clothing and boots. One very useful donation was a sack containing approximately seventy pairs of hoots. The response wass really magnificent, and the scout committee have every reason to he satisfied with the success of the Still Increasing. The number of unemployed in the Rotorua district still continues to show a slight rise and the figures for the past week, obtained from the certifying officer of the Rotorua district, (Mr. A. M. Robertson) indicate a total of 586 as unemployed. Of this total 532 were registered in the Rotorua town area, 38 at Mamaku and 16 at Ngongotaha. The figures include 92 single men, 322 married men with up to two children and 172 married men with over three .children. The increase on last week's figures is 8. Fish Poaching. ■ In the course of diseussion upon poaching at the. Stratford Acclimatisation Society's meeting reeently, one member stated that a man now past middle age told him he had used "jelly" once only in his life, and that was when he was a youth. He had placed half a plug in a stream at Mahoe, and it killed 27 fish. He got such a fright when he realised the damage that he had done that he "was never again guilty of using gelignite or any other explosive for poaching purposes. "But it's not as bad as liming, which cleans up a creek for miles," stated another member, who stoutly denied the soft impeachment that he had ever used it, but had seen its evil effects. Since the armistiee approximately 11,000 houses have been demolished under improveraent and reconstruction schemes'in England and Wales.
