alleged bookmaking charge brought against rotorua resideNts REMAND GRANTED Allegations in connection with bookmaking charges led to th'e arrest of three men at paidday on Saturday. They were John Stephen Maseery Hori Mau and Michael John Hefferen. Later in the day the "men appeared before Mr. A. V. Merriman, J.P., and were formally charged. • J. S. Maseery, hairdressei*, was charged with occupying a room as a eommon gaming house and with carrying on the business of a bookmakei'. Hori Mau, was charged with assisting in th'e conduct of a common gaming house, while Michael J. Hefferen, also a hairdresser, was charged with occupying a shop as a common gaming house and with carrying on the business of a bookmaker. Detective Thomson, who made the arrests, aslced for and obtained a remand until Monday, July 25. Bail was allowed accused on their own recognizance for £100 and one surety each of £100.
