MR. S. M. BRUCE

(Press. Assn.—

CREATES MARKED IMPRESSION'

-By Telegraph — Copyright).

Rec. July 15, 9.15 p.m. VANCOUVER, Friday. Mr. S. M. Bruce's speech at the Government luncheon at Victoria, has confirmed the great impression which he ereated on his previous visit. He = was held as one of the outstanding Empire statesmen. Mr. Bruce was cheered for saying that Ottawa was the most important conference ever held hy the British people. Continuing, Mr. Bruce said : We want to help the world through this period of doubt and hardship. We have shown the world what can be done by the British people, but only by international action can the diffieulties confronting the nations be overeome. "The world calls upon the British statesmanship to find a way out and I hope we will be worthy of the opportunity. Previous attempts to build up empire trade have failed from Sir Joseph Chamberlain's time to the 1926 conference. "The reason for the failure in the past has now disappeared. We will be eourting failure if we go to Ottawa determined to gain something for ourselves at the expense of other parts of the Empire."
