BRITISH DELEGATES

SEND OFF AT SOUTHA MPTON (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Friday. The British delegation to the Empire Economic Conference at Ottawa, which is to open on July 24, embarked for Canada 'on the Empress of Britain at Southampton this afternoon. The delegation is led hy Mr. Stanley Baldwin, and conrprises also: — Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Excheuer. Viscount Halisham, Secretary of State for War. Mr. J. H. Thomas, Dominions Secretary. Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, Colonial Secretary. Mr. Walter Runciman, President of the Board of Trade. Sir John Gilmour, Minister of Agriculture. The Empress of Britain, which was given a rousing send-off, was gaily dressed, every fiag of the Empire being displayed, and streamers trailed from her decks. Including experts, offieials and secretarial staffs the British delegation numbers 141 persons. Forty-six members of other Empire delegations to Ottawa are also on board. Before the vessel sailed Mr. Baldwin, in an interview, said: "After Lausanne — Ottawa. We are leaving full of hope that we sliall be able, as a further step toward the revival of the trade of the world, to crown the first year's work of the National Government by agreeing at Ottawa upon a policy of freer trade which will lay the foundation of a great expansion of Empire trade, to the mutual advantage of us all."
